Kenneth (Ken) Wampler
Kenneth (Ken) Wampler is an artist and outdoor enthusiast. He has become well known in the United States from East to West and to the Gulf Coast predicated on fine realistic Watercolor and Acrylic painting of birds and animals. Many of his paintings are renditions of his camping trips in Texas, Wyoming, New Mexico and Colorado. He has not limited his abilities entirely to wildlife. His tour o f military duty in Europe and interest in photography and camping has given him many firsthand sources of material for his paintings. He is a life member of North American Hunting Club, member of Duck's Unlimited, Quail Unlimited, the NRA, and the Rocky Mountain ELK Foundation.
The Artist was born in a small town in Oklahoma, but has spent most of his life in the Panhandle of Texas, completing high school in Dumas, earning a bachelor's degree from Texas A & M University and a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. After working as an engineer for ten years in Houston, his family moved back to Amarillo where he continued his engineering career for 28 years, retiring in 1996 to full time Painting.
Kenneth has shared his art with many through Amarillo College's continuing education classes; teaching drawing, acrylic painting and water colors. He has given workshops and demonstrated water colors for various art organizations.
He served as president, treasure, show director, membership chairman and is a life member of Amarillo Fine Arts Association; past member and treasure of the Lone Star Pastel Society of Amarillo; member and program chairman and publicity chairman of the Tri-State Art Association of West Texas A & M University in Canyon; member and president of the Watercolor Society of Amarillo; member of the Moore Country Arts Association in Dumas; member of the Panhandle Art Center in Amarillo; member of the Amarillo Art Institute; and has served as chairman of the Board of Trustees and Ushers for the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Amarillo.
Thought basically self taught, Ken has studied with Judi Betts and Dr. John P.O'Neil of Louisiana. Jerry Yarnell of Oklahoma, Julie Gilberts Pollard of Arizona, Chuck Danford of Colorado, JoBeth Gilliam of Lubbock , Stefan Kramer, Emin Abborsov, Steve Napper, Billye Optiz and Nancie Sisemore all of Amarillo and R. Russell Brown of Canyon.
Ken has won many awards in shows and competitions and has had several one man shows in Texas. Private collectors of his original paintings are in the state of California, Washington, Oregon, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Florida, Coloroda, North Carolina and Texas; and Internationally in Mexico, Holland and England. Ken maintains a full time working studio and gallery in the "Galleries of Sunset" located in Amarillo. Texas.
